Our winemaker, Jeff Ames, just tasted the wine and shared these observations:
“The 2022 vintage will be remembered for an intense blast of heat that took place in early September; creating what may have been the most difficult conditions other than wildfires. Our 2022 harvest benefitted greatly by being in a spot of the valley that wasn’t naturally very hot, and also having access to sufficient water to keep the vines refreshed. We were able to get a crew in to pick before the worst of the heat.
Fortunately, the Nemerever vineyard is in a slightly cooler part of Oakville with sufficient water and, we were able to get a vineyard crew when needed. This allowed us to make a complex, rich Cabernet with none of the raisin-like character resulting from the later extended heat spell.
Our 2022 Cabernet shows the spicy red side of the aromatics with red cherry, raspberry, clove and allspice notes, and a scent of freshly rained-on forest floor. On the palate, this wine is a medium-to-full weight wine and has a touch of sarsaparilla and a bit of root beer along with hints of great prime rib. The finish is long and complex suggesting roasted meats and a hint of fennel.”
